The Tennessee Department of Tourism’s (TDTD) Public Relations team and 14 tourism partners from across the state will be participating in the 2017 Tennessee Sampler on Nov. 1-3, 2017. The travel project is an opportunity for TDTD staff and tourism partners to cultivate and begin new relationships with media in some of Tennessee’s most important travel markets.

According to the U.S. travel Association, record setting tourism in 2016 generated more than $1 billion in Tennessee’s tax revenues. Of the State’s 95 counties, 92 counties saw an increase in the economic impact of tourism in 2016, and all 95 counties saw more than $1 million in the
economic impact of tourism.

This year’s TDTD PR Media Sampler will conduct meetings with journalists representing all types of traditional and social media in nine key markets, according to an official news release distributed today. These teams are being sent to Tennessee’s top feeder markets, destinations that have in the past have shown to be the cities of origin for the most visitors.

The team departing from Chattanooga will visit Atlanta and Birmingham. The team departing from Knoxville will visit Asheville, Charlotte and Greenville/Spartanburg. The team departing from Nashville will visit Louisville, Indianapolis, and Evansville. Additionally, a team will fly to Chicago, Illinois to have meetings.

Participants in the PR Media Sampler meet with journalists to discuss new tourism attractions, to highlight upcoming major milestones in the state, and to pitch events happening throughout Tennessee.
